Fill Out Tax Return on Time

Your Tax Payments Should Be Made Until May 6, 2014

Date: May 2014

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) reminds you to fill out and submit your tax return on time and make your tax payments swiftly by using its high-security online services. Make sure to fill out your 2013 income tax and benefit return and cover all the amounts owing at the latest on May 5, 2014. The term expires at midnight on the date required by the CRA. If you manage to fill out your 2013 tax returns and pay taxes before specified date, you won’t be charged any penalties or interests.

The deadline to fill out your 2013 tax return is postponed to June 16, 2014 (as June 15 is Sunday) in case your wife/husband or civil partner is a self-employed person. Still your tax payments should be made until midnight on May 5, 2014.

Currently more and more people in Canada choose to fill out their tax and benefit returns online. The CRA offers you one of its easy-to-use and high-security options called NETFILE designed to help you with filing your tax return. All you have to do is find the time and make sure your Internet is working. Visit www.netfile.gc.ca/software to check the other CRA’s options and software programs, some of which are free to use.

In order to satisfy your unpaid tax debt you can turn to your financial center or use online banking. Visit www.cra.gc.ca/payments to find out more about electronic payments or consult your financial organization. You may also use My Payment provided by the CRA to make a transaction. This convenient service allows you to perform online money transfers quickly and easy, however it’s only available to those, using the Internet banking feature of their financial organizations.

What if you can’t pay your balance owing before May 5?

Income tax and benefit return should be filled out in any case before midnight on May 5, otherwise a penalty for exceeding time limits will be applied. The CRA assumes a possibility of your non-paying the full balance owing before the required date, that’s why it gives you a chance to arrange your own tax payment system. If the reason why you can’t fully pay your taxes is convincing, our specialists will help you solve this problem by developing your special payment plan.

Voluntary Disclosures Program to reveal unreported information

The Voluntary Disclosures Program may help you to report complete and precise information if it hasn’t been done in previous tax returns. If you turn to this service you can correct the mistakes in your income tax and benefit return and reveal unreported information. In case of valid information disclosure penalty will not be applied. You will only have to pay the amount owing and the interest. Visit www.cra.gc.ca/voluntarydisclosures to find out more about this program.
